Sarnia's WAKE-up Call
After a successful first year,
Sarnia’s WAKE-up Call will be back again and taking over the park for 2009. We are certainly excited for 2009 and we have some big announcements for the second ever Sarnia’s WAKE-up Call. There is a current plan on expansion of events and introducing a new format to the contest. Stay tuned over the next few months as we continue to announce things as they unfold. Tara Hagan recently wrote an article in The Sarnia Observer regarding the event, it can be found in the news section.
SWUC has been under pressure in the last few weeks as the event has been told that it will not be allowed to host any on water activities during Bayfest weekend. Well, as luck would have it...Wakestock has changed it's dates and is no longer taking place on Ribfest weekend. So, it's time to prepare Ribfest for not one, but two days of action....SWUC YEAYIH!
July 25th and 26th/2009.
SWUC currently plans to follow through with each of the 2008 events; add an additional day, introduce a new feature to the event and a brand new format. (outlaw amateur division)
The first ever
In 2008, SWUC worked in partnership with
2008 SWUC EVENTS:
On Water: Each rider was given 10 minutes on the water. During this time they could ride however they like. It was up them to have fun on the water, and show the other riders their skills. This allowed riders to push themselves and provide an opportunity for spectators to see the best tricks possible. The Competition was then broken down into a 3 rider final in which the top 3 riders demonstrated their skills and at the end there was a riders meeting and placing was determined by the riders alone.
On Land: The on land winch pool contest was held on 2 pools with a slider transfer (150 feet in length). We ran the on land contest for at least 4 hours of the day. The competition on the winch pools was held all day long and riders judged the best trick and best rider for the day. Riders were towed across the pools via a high powered winching device that retracts the rope and pulls the rider across the pool just like a boat would. Riders were transferring from one pool to the next via a slider. This portion of the event was in partnership with Big Brothers of Sarnia Lambton. Each rider was teamed with a “Little Brother” and competed to win that person a prize pack donated by the sponsors.
