Sarnia's WAKE-up Call

After a successful first year, Sarnia’s WAKE-up Call is back for 2009!

Sarnia’s WAKE-up Call will be back again and taking over the park for 2009.   We are certainly excited for 2009 and we have some big announcements for the second ever Sarnia’s WAKE-up Call.  There is a current plan on expansion of events and introducing a new format to the contest.  Stay tuned over the next few months as we continue to announce things as they unfold.

BIG ANNOUNCEMENT #1 - Sarnia's WAKE-up Call and Sarnia's Bayfest (www.sarniabayfest.com) are partnering together for 2009 to make an action packed weekend in Cenennial Park.  SWUC will be held on July 11th and 12th during the Bayfest ROCK weekend.  Bayfest has been very accepting to the idea of us partnering and together we are working to boost tourism to Sarnia-Lambton.  Sarnia's WAKE-up Call is extremely excited and eager about the opportunity to work with a festival like Bayfest.   Bayfest is an event that EVERYONE in Sarnia and people from around the world look forward to annually.   From the minute that it ends, people begin getting excited for what is to come the next year.  I can honestly say with the addition of Sarnia's WAKE-up Call that it is going to be a weekend for event goers to never forget.  WAKE-up Call and Bayfest will allow festival attendees to be entertained from sunrise to sundown.  This will be a great enhancement for a weekend that is going to ROCK Sarnia.

SWUC currently plans to follow through with each of the 2008 events; add an additional day, introduce a new feature to the event and a brand new format. (outlaw amateur division)

The first ever Sarnia's WAKE-up Call (SWUC) was a one of a kind, non traditional wakeboard/wakeskate event.  SWUC will remain a free admission event for 2009.

In 2008, SWUC worked in partnership with Sarnia's Ribfest www.sarniaribfest.com and Hobbyfest. Both of these events are annual events that take place in Sarnia. Ribfest was host to free live performances by Kim Mitchell and April Wine...who knows who they will have this year?!  But make sure to get to Sarnia for that weekend as well.

2008 SWUC EVENTS:

On Water: Each rider was given 10 minutes on the water. During this time they could ride however they like. It was up them to have fun on the water, and show the other riders their skills. This allowed riders to push themselves and provide an opportunity for spectators to see the best tricks possible. The Competition was then broken down into a 3 rider final in which the top 3 riders demonstrated their skills and at the end there was a riders meeting and placing was determined by the riders alone.

On Land: The on land winch pool contest was held on 2 pools with a slider transfer (150 feet in length). We ran the on land contest for at least 4 hours of the day. The competition on the winch pools was held all day long and riders judged the best trick and best rider for the day.  Riders were towed across the pools via a high powered winching device that retracts the rope and pulls the rider across the pool just like a boat would. Riders were transferring from one pool to the next via a slider. This portion of the event was in partnership with Big Brothers of Sarnia Lambton. Each rider was teamed with a “Little Brother” and competed to win that person a prize pack donated by the sponsors.
